The end is nigh..

Our usual Friday blog post was cancelled last week due to us not having done much to write about the week previous! Uncoincidentally, it was also the first time during the trip that we started to feel a bit, dare I say, bored. As terrible as that sounds, we’ve both realised that our lives need a bit more than swanning around, playing a bit of golf and sunbathing. However, that all changed with the arrival of our friends and then Sarah’s parents which also involved yet another trip to the bright lights of Benidorm.

It’s been such a good week catching up with our loved ones. Its fair to say that we’ve given the ball a good ol kick and our livers will need a period of abstinence to recover. I can neither confirm nor deny that during our first jolly one of us dived fully clothed in to the pool and another of the gang snook on to the golf course in the pitch black to hit a shot. What goes on on tour n all that..

My Movember campaign has continued in somewhat steady fashion. Both from a monetary and hair growth perspective. Im now at the stage where I’ve forgotten that I have this ridiculous moustache lurking on my upper lip. I wonder what people think when they clock it? I guess they just think I’m either German, or a time traveller from the 1980s.

Not only did we return to Benidorm for a third time this year, but we made our third visit to the Villasol campsite. This time we hired a cabin to stay in, as opposed to taking the motorhome up there. It might have been a bit too cosy with 4 of us crammed in to Gerty. Apart from the first morning/afternoon when I was as sick as a dog (I think due to a bug, Sarah says due to 4 days on the razz) we had a fantastic time. The weather was a bit overcast but we managed to stay dry, well, on the outside anyway. In addition to the refreshments, which were plentyfull, we managed to catch a brilliant comedian and some of the tribute acts that Benidorm is famous for, including; ‘Benidorm Tom’ the infamous Tom Jones impersonator. Being the cultured types that we are, we even walked up to the old town for tapas and drinks one afternoon and couldn’t believe how nice it was. Not a kiss me quick hat or a double mobility scooter in sight! It’s crazy how different it is up there, especially as it is less than a mile from carnage avenue.

Following a rather steady drive back down the coast, we checked in to the Intercontinental Hotel on the Mar Menor Resort, courtesy of Sarah’s Dad, Mark. After living in the van for all this time it’s been lovely to Stay with Craig & Ruth in their posh Villa and then in the swanky hotel. Not having to empty your own toilet for a few days has a real appeal funnily enough!?

The Merrills safely delivered back to the airport (although I did almost crash the car through the security barrier on exiting the hotel complex) Sarah and I headed back to the hotel to take advantage of a late check out that Mark had kindly arranged. A few more hours of luxury were just what the doctor ordered, in addition to a replacement liver.

We’ll be raising Gerty’s anchor on Tuesday next week. Between now and then we have a bit more golf, sunbathing and swanning to do, all before the harsh reality of real life back in a dark and cold English winter bites us on the arse!!!

Adios amigos xx
